Although Hospice has been traditionally focused on individuals who prefer to remain at home until the end of their life, it may also be a valuable option for some residents of Gibbs Care Center. Hospice services provide comfort and support for persons in the last stages of an incurable disease so that they, and their family members, may participate as much as possible in the decisions affecting the end of the person’s life.

There are several agencies in the area that offer hospice services; the choice of which company will serve you or your loved one is up to you. All medications, services, and equipment related to the terminal illness are covered under the Medicare Hospice Benefit of 1983, and private or public insurance. Talk with your doctor, nurses, or social worker about your options.

Remember, Hospice is about compassionate care when a cure isn’t possible. If you decide to be admitted to Hospice, all care is coordinated and shared between Gibbs Care Center and Hospice staff. You and your family deserve to share life to the fullest, even up to the final moment.
